Remember Yourself by Symphony Triteleia Laxa

Music & Words by Mark Dean © 2025 Audio Portrait Music ASCAP

Pennsylvania-based Symphony Triteleia Laxa's new release, "Remember Yourself," is a compelling tribute to a lost canine companion. This dynamic rock track blends acoustic and electric elements with intricate, shifting rhythms and extended instrumental passages, taking listeners on an unforgettable musical odyssey. Poetic and descriptive lyrics passionately convey a heartfelt tribute to a fallen friend, culminating in a poignant spoken word section near the song's end. Alternative rock and neo-prog fans will connect with the emotional themes and appreciate the complex compositional architecture and eclectic sound of "Remember Yourself" by Symphony Triteleia Laxa.

Excellent production, solid mix. Great organic sound, and I love that you left in all of the background dog noises to contribute to the overall ambiance. Fantastic intro and opening riff, mandocello was a perfect choice, sounds great paired with the chorus on the electric guitar. Outstanding shifty groove, once the drums and bass lock in. Love the offbeat accent placements. Nice instrumental section that starts around 4:30 with the double time feel, great soloing and dynamic shape throughout. Awesome vocal performance and production, tremendous rock delivery style with great dynamics and control. The backing vocals add wonderful texture and harmonic character. Lyrics are incredibly vivid and paint a detailed portrait of Angus that will serve as an eternal reminder. The lyrical content should resonate with anyone who has ever lost a friend, family member, or furry companion. The spoken word part I found to be particularly stirring, and serves as a terrific final movement to this epic piece. All in all, this is an amazing composition and a fine finished track that should vibe with alternative rock and neo-prog audiences, as well as a fitting tribute to your Queensland Heeler. Brilliant work on this one, it was quite an ambitious endeavor, very well executed!

Overall Impression

Symphony Triteleia Laxa serve up primal, hard-hitting alternative metal on their release of "Dancin' Round this Bonfire." Recorded over the course of several years by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Mark Dean, this track is a true labor of love that blends monster guitar riffs and mesmerizing tribal rhythms with the ingenuity and calculations of prog rock. A psychedelic middle section incorporates real audio of Dean's friends and family that plays overtop a heavy tom groove and chugging bass riff, setting up an angular, off-kilter guitar solo before heading into the final refrain. Rock enthusiasts of all sorts, particularly fans of prog-metal, will revel in the potent sound and unbridled spirit of "Dancing' Round this Bonfire" from Symphony Triteleia Laxa.

Strongest Point(s)

Excellent production, outstanding mix. Nice intro, does a good job setting the stage. Fantastic main riff and groove, love the 7-beat mixed meter. Drums hit hard and sound incredible. Great bass tone. Nice instrumentation and variety of guitar tones. Great use of foley and real audio, the voices and whispers add an interesting texture as well as atmosphere. The middle section offers a wonderful diversion, breaks things up nicely. Great little background vocal hook through there that ties it all together melodically. Guitar solo sounds awesome coming out of it. Terrific vocal performance, great rock style and delivery. Lyrics are heady and cohesive, sticking to the primal feel and bonfire theme. All in all this is an incredibly impressive endeavor, especially considering the time and effort spent. It’s a great sounding track that certainly captures and conveys a holistic sense of community and a shared collective consciousness. Stellar work, from top to bottom!

Little Symphonies (Cover Art)

Song: Little Symphonies

Overall Impression:   Symphony Triteleia Laxa, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Mark Dean, delivers an epic work of progressive rock with the release of "Little Symphonies." Opening with a delicate and mysterious toy piano overture, this track really opens up at the forty-second mark as thundering bass, jagged guitars, and hard-hitting drums lay down a complicated mixed-meter rock groove. A playful second section commences around 3:10, highlighted by a whimsical if not slightly maniacal melody that provides an exciting contrast and variation before revisiting the main theme. At 4:30, a powerful bass and drum feature segues into a fiery guitar solo that resolves into the B section, before reprising the main theme once more and then fading into the ether. Dean's highly visual, psychedelic lyrics and scintillating vocals put the finishing touches on this nearly nine-minute masterpiece that is sure to leave listeners feeling satiated. Prog rock and progressive metal fans in particular should absolutely check out "Little Symphonies", from Symphony Triteleia Laxa.

Strongest Point(s):   Excellent production, outstanding mix. Great tonal balance. Incredible arrangement and composition. Great intro, sets the mood and atmosphere nicely. Fantastic groove, bass, and drums sound terrific. Guitar tone is spot on, impressive technique. The B section offers an excellent changeup. Big Freddy/Bowie vibes there from the vocal arrangement. Awesome transition into the next movement, the guitar solo and interplay between the bass and drums sounds amazing. Nice revision of the B section coming out of that, before the big reprise. Love the reverse outro, good framing. Stellar vocal performance and arranging throughout. Lyrics have a wonderful mystical, dreamlike quality about them that's perfect for the genre. All in all, this is a remarkable composition that's been meticulously executed and produced, resulting in a killer finished track. This should resonate strongly with the prog community!

And Back Again. (Cover Art)

Song: And Back Again

Overall Impression: Solo artist Symphony Triteleia Laxa has released the new single And Back Again. A track for those who listen intently, And Back Again has all of the killer guitar work, intriguing musical textures, and enigmatic lyricism to occupy its own space in the worlds of Hard Rock and Progressive Rock. It immediately makes a strong impression with a jaunty groove that edges on being marcato. The main guitar riff manages to descend toward the depths, yet still be bright and freeing. This balance of opposing qualities is a common feature throughout And Back Again. It rocks as hard as any song can, but then momentarily opens up to show a softer side. Sung by Mark Dean, the man behind Symphony Triteleia Laxa, the vocals are jaggedly edged and fit in perfectly with their musical surroundings. At times they are bursting with power, at others they taunt and slip into the background. All in all, And Back Again is a terrifically captivating Hard Rock listen that displays a wealth of talent and skill from Symphony Triteleia Laxa.

Strongest Point(s): There are many strong points with And Back Again. The melodies and textures immediately grab attention, but are just as interesting after multiple listens. They have character and give this track personality. The production level is also quite high. The instrumental work all sounds fantastic in the mix, and the vocals showcase a unique sound that cuts through.

Target Audience Appeal: Fans of Hard Rock and Prog will dig And Back Again by Symphony Triteleia Laxa.

Artist target suggestions: Ralph Tomaselli, Rush, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Guthrie Govan, Porcupine Tree, Alec Berlin, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Audioslave Liquid Tension Experiment, Symphony X, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Tim Sullivan, Coheed and Cambria, Tool

Between the Confetti and the Dance ... (Cover Art)

Song: Between the Confetti and the Dance / Moonset Confetti Dance

by Symphony Triteleia Laxa.

Symphony Triteleia Laxa (the music work of Mark Dean) has just released a new single entitled "Between the Confetti and the Dance / Moonset Confetti Dance”  This instrumental song is divided up into two movements that are completely performed by Dean.  The first section invokes a wistful expansiveness, somewhat reminiscent of what Jimmy Page might have played in the acoustic moments of Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti era.  It is gorgeously recorded and features mandocello, guitars, and light percussion - the song truly needs to be experienced on headphones to hear all the sonic details. The second movement of the piece is more uptempo and has a Celtic/medieval/folk tinge to it.  Lovely melodies abound and I've grown quite fond of the electric guitar that snakes in and out of the musical statements.  "Between the Confetti and the Dance / Moonset Confetti Dance" is another brilliant piece of thematic music from Mark Dean - highly recommended!

From the Air. (Cover Art)

Song: From the Air by Symphony Triteleia Laxa.

From the Air is the new single from Mark Dean's Symphony Triteleia Laxa.  This song begins with insistent tribal percussion, followed by sensuously languid guitar strums.  These guitars herald music filled with wordless vocals, snaky bass lines and gorgeous acoustic lead guitar.  'From the Air' is lovely impressionistic music for your ears and mind - highly recommended.

Review by Tim Morse (Journalist / Author / Progressive Rock Recording Artist)

Mark Dean's Caldera / No Man is an Island (Album Cover)

Album: No Man is an Island by Mark Dean's Caldera

“The album defies genre and classification, blending many old and new school metal influences with a smattering of progressive elements and a touch of atmospheric/ethereal tones. … No Man Is An Island is an interesting look into the psyche and musical growth of a performer. Musically diverse and dense, almost “art-rock” at times, the album takes the listener from soft atmospheric passages to intense metal without pretending to be either. As both a musician and songwriter Mark Dean proves himself to be immensely talented. He delivers solid guitar work, intense bass, intricate drums, and nicely done keyboards. … No Man Is An Island is obviously a labor of love by Mark Dean, and while it may not get much in the way of commercial airplay or mainstream recognition, it is indeed a fine release. Intense and powerful rock blended with prog elements, strong lyrics, and an ever-present sense of melody make this album highly recommended. Artistic expression at its purest …”
